In Portuguese, Sobremesa means “dessert,” but in Spanish culture, it has a deeper meaning.

(estar en) Sobremesa: After the main meal of the day, which usually takes place around 2 or 3 pm, the Spanish often linger on at table enjoying dessert, coffee, or liqueurs, and spending time with one another before returning to work later in the afternoon. It has been found to be so romantic that, eight times so far, men have chosen it to be the place they asked their beloved to marry them, and in all cases she said yes! It has also been chosen for many rehearsal dinners. They then return for their first anniversaries and to celebrate the first birthdays of their children.
